Data Center Technician - Ashburn, VA (Local Travel Required)

Position Summary
The Data Center Technician will provide on-site technical support across two data center facilities in Ashburn, VA. This hands-on role is responsible for maintaining and supporting IT infrastructure, coordinating with remote teams, and managing vendor relationships to ensure optimal data center performance, availability, and compliance with operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-On Support
Serve as on-site 'hands and eyes' for remote administrators and support teams.
Perform hardware diagnostics and repairs (e.g., disk replacements, power supplies, SAN components).
Manage RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) processes with vendors for defective hardware.
Hardware Management
Install, upgrade, rack, and cable IT hardware and components.
Decommission, remove, and document retired equipment.
Receive, unpack, assemble, and dispose of equipment and packaging per site policies.
Cabling & Connectivity
Trace, troubleshoot, and resolve cabling issues.
Run and manage network patch cables to install, activate, replace, or decommission network components in accordance with client procedures.
Coordinate with team members for new cable runs.
Document switch ports and update inventory systems accordingly.
System Configuration & Monitoring
Assist with initial configuration of hardware to establish network connectivity.
Commission servers for remote access and monitoring (e.g., iLO, iDRAC).
Support and maintain computer room monitoring systems such as NetBotz, StruxureWare, or similar tools.
Asset & Inventory Management
Track and manage IT assets and spare parts using client inventory tools (e.g., Command).
Vendor & Project Support
Escort vendors (telecom, hardware vendors, consultants) within secure areas.
Provide technical assistance for special IT projects as needed.
Ticketing & Change Management
Utilize client ticketing and workflow management tools (JIRA experience preferred).
Follow established processes for:
Change Management - ServiceNow
Incident Management - ServiceNow
Problem Management - ServiceNow
Configuration Management - ServiceNow and Command
Experience with ServiceNow is required.
General Support
Provide daily operational support to ensure data center uptime and compliance with company standards.
Perform basic maintenance tasks such as racking, cabling, and hardware replacements with accurate documentation.
